Overview
On the night of April 21, 2013, 27-year-old Dennis Clark III carried out a sequence of shootings at the Pinewood Village Apartments in Federal Way, Washington. The violence began as a domestic homicide inside his apartment and continued into the complex’s parking area and a neighboring unit before police confronted and fatally shot Clark at the scene. Multiple contemporaneous reports identified four homicide victims, making it the deadliest shooting in Federal Way’s history.
Timeline of Events (April 21, 2013)
- ~9:30–9:35 p.m.: Inside their shared apartment at Pinewood Village (33300 block of 18th Lane South), Clark shot and killed his girlfriend, Justine Elizabeth Baez, 24.
- Clark exited the unit, descended into the parking lot, and encountered two men—Ceasar A. Valdovinos, 23, and Bradley A. Fischer, 47. An altercation ensued and Clark fatally shot both men.
- As neighbors called 911, Roland L. Scobee, 62, retreated to his nearby apartment to report the gunfire. Clark forced his way in and shot Scobee dead.
- Responding officers confronted Clark in the complex. According to official accounts, he failed to comply and moved to arm himself; officers opened fire, killing him and ending the rampage.
