In the spring of 2013, 62-year-old Roland L. Scobee, a man known for his love of the outdoors and friendly nature, became an innocent victim in a violent rampage. His life was tragically cut short on the evening of April 21, 2013, at the Pinewood Village Apartments in Federal Way, Washington, where he had been a resident for over a decade.
The night's horrific events began with a domestic dispute in a neighboring apartment.
A 28-year-old man named Dennis Clark fatally shot his girlfriend, Justine E. Baez, 24. Armed with a shotgun, Clark then moved outside and shot two men in the parking lot, 23-year-old Ceasar A. Valdovinos and 47-year-old Bradley Fischer.
Hearing the commotion, Scobee opened his apartment door and urged a neighbor to call 911 before retreating inside for safety. However, his attempt to help ended in tragedy. Clark used his shotgun to breach Scobee's door and then fatally shot him. Police arrived at the chaotic scene to the sound of ongoing gunfire. They confronted Clark, who was advancing toward them.
