Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez and the 2015 Chattanooga Attacks

Overview

On July 16, 2015, 24-year-old Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez carried out a two-site shooting in Chattanooga, Tennessee, first attacking a joint Armed Forces recruiting center on Lee Highway and then the Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) and Marine Corps Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway. He killed four U.S. Marines on July 16; a U.S. Navy sailor died two days later from wounds. A Marine recruiter and a Chattanooga police sergeant were also wounded before Abdulazeez was shot and killed by responding officers.

Timeline of the Attacks — July 16, 2015

~10:45 a.m. — Abdulazeez opened fire from a rented silver Ford Mustang on the Armed Forces Career Center in a strip mall on Lee Highway, wounding a Marine recruiter. He then fled. ~11:00 a.m. — He drove about seven miles to the NOSC/Marine Reserve Center on Amnicola Highway, rammed the security gate, and continued shooting inside and around the facility. Four Marines were fatally wounded at this site; a sailor would later die of injuries. Abdulazeez was killed in a gunfight with police outside the center.
