Overview
On May 23, 2014, Elliot Rodger carried out a mass murder in Isla Vista, California, near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara. The attack, often referred to as the "Isla Vista killings," involved stabbings, shootings, and vehicular assaults. Rodger, 22 years old at the time, left behind a manifesto and videos expressing his hatred toward women and frustrations with social rejection, framing his actions as a form of retribution.
The Crimes
Rodger’s attack began at his apartment, where he fatally stabbed his roommates and a visiting friend. He then drove through Isla Vista, shooting at pedestrians, entering a sorority house, and striking multiple victims with his vehicle. The spree lasted for approximately ten minutes before Rodger took his own life inside his car following a confrontation with law enforcement.
