On a cold December night in Philadelphia, a burst of gunfire shattered the stillness on the 700 block of Union Street in the Mantua section of the city. Inside a parked white Cadillac SUV, 53-year-old Kemo Vaughn and 28-year-old Tahira Wynn were ambushed. It was shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, December 26, 2024, when two unidentified men approached the vehicle and opened fire from both sides, unleashing a hail of at least 18 bullets.
The attack was swift and brutal.
Investigators later determined that ten of the shots penetrated the front passenger-side window. When medics arrived at the scene, both Kemo Vaughn, a Black male from Upper Darby, and Tahira Wynn, of Tobyhanna, were found with multiple gunshot wounds. Vaughn was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m., followed by Wynn just a minute later.
Philadelphia police recovered surveillance footage that captured the two gunmen firing at close range before fleeing the scene. Despite this evidence, no arrests have been made in the double homicide, and a motive for the shooting has not been disclosed. The case remains an open and active investigation. Authorities have offered a $20,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case and are urging the public to come forward with any details.
