In the early hours of Monday, September 14, 2020, the escalating gun violence in Baltimore claimed another life. Vincent McCoy, a 52-year-old male, was discovered inside a crashed vehicle in the 2300 block of Homewood Avenue at approximately 12:14 a.m. He had sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene following a ShotSpotter alert for the 700 block of Bartlett Avenue, which led them to the nearby crash site on Homewood Avenue.
McCoy was rushed to a local hospital for treatment but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. Investigators believe he may have been shot while driving, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash.
McCoy's death was part of a significant wave of violence that plagued Baltimore during that week, with reports indicating that as of that Monday morning, 50 people had been shot, resulting in 15 fatalities since the previous Sunday. The Baltimore Police Department is actively investigating the homicide. However, to date, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the shooting of Vincent McCoy. Authorities have continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case.
