Thomas Stephen Stump, a 41-year-old man from Summerland Key, Florida, was last seen on July 24, 1995. On the morning of his disappearance, Thomas was preparing for a family vacation with his wife, Bernie, and their two daughters. He visited a gas station, the bank, and the post office as part of the preparations. However, later that day, his daughter called his mother, informing her that they believed Thomas had committed suicide.

There were conflicting accounts from Bernie, who later told a rental car agency that Thomas had drowned himself. She had initially reported that he lost their car keys while swimming. These discrepancies raised concerns, especially after it was revealed that Bernie and Thomas had marital problems, with suspicions of an affair involving a local radio personality. Shortly after Thomas's disappearance, Bernie married the same man, and he moved into the Stump residence.

Although there were indications that Thomas might have met with foul play, Bernie and her new husband passed polygraph tests, and no substantial evidence has surfaced. Thomas was declared legally dead in 2000, but his body has never been found. His case remains unsolved, with his family still believing foul play was involved.
