In the late hours of September 9, 2019, Demond Scroggins, a 44-year-old man, was found shot in the head in the 1200 block of E. Lafayette Street in Baltimore, Maryland. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Known affectionately as 'Dee' to his friends and family, Scroggins was remembered as a funny, loving, and supportive father, brother, and son who was born and raised in East Baltimore.
He was a family man who was deeply connected to his four children and their friends, often being seen as a parental figure to them.
The investigation into the death of Scroggins led to the arrest of 46-year-old Ronald Brady on April 30, 2020. Brady was taken into custody in the 600 block of Denison Street and subsequently charged with first-degree murder for his alleged role in the shooting. Following his arrest, he was held at Central Booking without bail.
Ronald Brady, who has a history of prior felony convictions, faced a number of charges in connection to the incident, including first-degree murder, firearm use during a crime, and illegal possession of a firearm. His case proceeded through the court system, with a trial date being rescheduled in May 2022.
