On May 30, 2022, 16-year-old Andrea De Los Santos, a Hispanic female, was tragically killed in a quadruple shooting in Philadelphia, PA. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. on the 3000 block of East Tioga Street during a large-scale pop-up party known as a "boom party," where cars with massive speaker systems blast loud music. Investigators believe the shooting erupted at this event, which is often associated with increased crime.
Andrea was one of four victims shot that night.
She was transported to Temple University Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The other victims included a 22-year-old woman, a 21-year-old Hispanic male, and a 14-year-old Hispanic female. Despite the presence of nearly 50 spent shell casings at the scene, police have not shared a motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.
The investigation into Andrea's death remains ongoing, and the Philadelphia Police Department has urged anyone with information to come forward. The family has also started a GoFundMe campaign to help with funeral arrangements and to seek justice for Andrea.
The community has rallied around Andrea's family, holding vigils and calling for an end to the rampant gun violence in Philadelphia. Andrea's mother, Carmen, spoke at one such vigil, sharing her daughter's aspirations to become an immigration lawyer and help others coming into the country from the Dominican Republic. Andrea's sister, Leslye Estavez, remembered her as a loving and caring individual who was great with her young children.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement and the community, the case remains unsolved, and the search for justice continues.
