Amber Long, a 26-year-old architect from Philadelphia, was tragically shot and killed on January 19, 2014, during a purse-snatching incident in the Northern Liberties neighborhood. Amber and her mother, Stephanie, were walking along Front Street when they were approached by two men. The assailants attempted to steal their purses, and during the struggle, one of the men shot Amber at point-blank range before fleeing the scene. Despite video surveillance footage and a $37,000 reward offered for information, no suspects have been arrested, and the case remains unsolved.
Amber graduated from Philadelphia University in 2011 with a degree in architecture. Her alma mater has since established the Amber Long Endowed Scholarship in her honor to support future architecture students. Additionally, her mother created the nonprofit "Handbags 4 Peace" to promote self-defense and safety awareness for women, transforming her grief into action to help others.
