An 80-year-old Black female, Rose Goodman, was tragically found deceased in her Philadelphia home on the evening of September 7, 2023. Residing on the 5700 block of Broomall Street for five decades, she was a beloved figure in her Kingsessing neighborhood, known by many as a 'neighborhood mom'. Her family, concerned after not hearing from her, contacted the police who then made the grim discovery.
Upon their arrival at approximately 9:49 p.m., Philadelphia Fire Department medics found
Ms. Goodman unresponsive in her front bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators determined that an intruder had gained access to her home by breaking in through a basement window. Despite the violent nature of the intrusion, authorities reported that it did not appear that any items were taken from her residence, leaving the motive behind the attack a mystery.
A mother of three and grandmother to seven, Ms. Goodman was remembered by her family as a kind, compassionate, and caring Christian woman who had dedicated her life to serving her community. Her son recalled her love for playing pinochle with her friends and her vibrant spirit. Having lived in her home for over 40 years, she had been living alone since her husband, a veteran, passed away a couple of years prior to her death.
In the wake of her death, the Philadelphia Police Department has made a public plea for any information that could lead to the capture of the individual responsible. They have emphasized that even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving the case. A $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person who committed this senseless act. As of now, no arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
