In the early morning hours of Saturday, September 26, 2021, a burst of violence on a Philadelphia street abruptly ended the life of 30-year-old Charitza Rodriguez Reyes. The Hispanic female was on the 100 block of West Lippincott Street when gunfire erupted shortly after 5:00 a.m. In the chaotic moments that followed, she was driven in a private vehicle to Episcopal Hospital, suffering from a single, devastating gunshot wound to her chest.
Despite the urgent efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.
The incident that claimed Rodriguez Reyes's life also left two men wounded. A 38-year-old Hispanic male was shot in the chest and rushed to the same hospital in critical condition. Another victim, a 37-year-old Hispanic male, managed to get himself to Jefferson Frankford Hospital with a gunshot wound to his shoulder before being transferred to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital for further treatment.
Residing on East Allegheny Avenue, Charitza Rodriguez Reyes became another victim of gun violence in a city grappling with a high number of homicides. The Philadelphia Police Department responded to the scene at Hancock and Lippincott Streets, but the perpetrators had already fled. As of now, the case remains an unsolved murder. No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the weapon used has not been recovered.
