In the summer of 2022, a West Philadelphia neighborhood was shaken by the violent death of a beloved community member. Mary Fisher, a 54-year-old Black female, was fatally shot on the night of Thursday, July 28th. The incident unfolded on the 700 block of North 46th Street, disrupting the late-night quiet and leaving a family to grapple with a sudden and tragic loss.
The events leading to Fisher's death reportedly began with a dispute at a large gathering inside a nearby house.
The altercation spilled out into the street, escalating to a fatal conclusion. At approximately 11:14 p.m., Philadelphia Police officers responded to reports of a shooting and discovered Fisher lying in the street. Emergency medical services transported her to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but her injuries proved to be too severe, and she was pronounced deceased.
In the immediate aftermath, investigators began to piece together the moments that led to the shooting. Police recovered three cell phones from the scene, hopeful that they might contain crucial evidence that could lead them to the person or persons responsible for Mary Fisher’s death. Authorities also sought to obtain and review any available surveillance video from the area that may have captured the incident or the moments leading up to it.
