Early Life and Background

Robert Joseph Long, also known as Bobby Joe Long, was born on October 14, 1953, in Kenova, West Virginia. His childhood was marked by instability, including his parents' separation and a strained relationship with his mother. Long suffered multiple head injuries during his youth and was born with an extra X chromosome, leading to the development of female traits such as breast tissue. These factors contributed to a troubled upbringing, which some believe played a role in his later criminal behavior.

Criminal Activities

Long's criminal behavior escalated over time. Initially, between 1980 and 1983, he was known as the "Classified Ad Rapist," contacting women through classified ads and assaulting them in their homes. He was responsible for approximately 50 rapes across Florida during this period.

Murder Spree in 1984

In 1984, Long's crimes escalated to murder. Over an eight-month period, he abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered at least ten women in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.
