• Dena R. McBreen - July 13, 2007 Location: Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Lane attempted to break into McBreen's home in the middle of the night, but she managed to escape and call 911. This attack was one of his first known attempts.
• Patricia Brooks - July 17, 2007 Location: Bloomsbury, New Jersey Another failed attempt, Lane broke into Brooks' home but was forced to flee when she screamed and alerted neighbors.
• Monica Massaro - July 29, 2007 Location: Bloomsbury, New Jersey Lane entered Massaro's home while she was sleeping and brutally stabbed her to death. Investigators later found evidence linking Lane to the crime, including his truck route near the area.
• Shari F. Smith - July 30, 2007 Location: Chelmsford, Massachusetts Smith was attacked in her home in a similar manner, with Lane stabbing her multiple times. Authorities later connected this murder to Lane using forensic evidence.
• Lisa Greaves - July 30, 2007 Location: Chelmsford, Massachusetts On the same night as Smith’s murder, Lane attempted another attack on Greaves. However, she fought back and survived, providing police with crucial details that helped identify him.

Capture and Conviction

Lane was captured on July 30, 2007, in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, after attempting to murder a teenage girl. The girl's father and a neighbor subdued him, holding him until police arrived.
