Shari F. Smith, a 15-year-old white female, was attacked in her home in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, on July 30, 2007, by Adam Leroy Lane, a 42-year-old white male truck driver known as the "Highway Killer." Lane had been traveling through the northeastern United States, committing a series of brutal attacks and murders along his trucking routes.
