A young Caucasian woman, 23-year-old Lisa Greaves, found her life tragically cut short on what should have been a normal day. On Good Friday, March 25, 2005, a man named John Eichinger arrived at the Greaves family home in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Eichinger, a former co-worker of Lisa's sister, Heather, harbored an unrequited romantic obsession with Heather.
He came to the house that day with a dark purpose, carrying a large knife and rubber gloves, intending to confront Heather about her relationship with her boyfriend.
When Heather Greaves rejected Eichinger's advances, he flew into a rage and brutally stabbed her. The horrific attack was witnessed by Heather's three-year-old daughter, Avery Johnson. In a desperate attempt to save herself, Heather urged her daughter to call for help. Hearing the commotion, Lisa Greaves emerged from another room in the house. Eichinger, realizing he had another witness to his crime, then turned his violent attack on Lisa.
Unwilling to leave anyone behind who could identify him, Eichinger overpowered Lisa and stabbed her to death. He also murdered the young child, Avery, to ensure there would be no witnesses to his brutal actions. After committing the triple homicide, Eichinger fled the scene. His attempt to escape justice was short-lived. A neighbor noticed him leaving the residence with blood on his clothing, which provided a crucial lead for investigators.
Following his arrest, John Eichinger confessed to the murders of Lisa, Heather, and Avery. During his confession, he also admitted to a previously unsolved murder from 1999, where he had killed another woman, Jennifer Still, after she had rejected him. Eichinger was charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He waived his right to a jury trial for the guilt phase and was convicted on all counts. A jury later sentenced him to death for the murders of the Greaves family, and he received a life sentence for the murder of Jennifer Still.
