In the summer of 1996, a tragic event unfolded in a sweltering Springfield, Massachusetts apartment, forever altering the lives of one family. Destiny Smith, a 22-month-old Black female, was found deceased from starvation and dehydration. Her mother, 20-year-old Amy Smith, was discovered naked and lifeless in a closet within the same apartment by a concerned social worker. The initial investigation into this horrific scene led to the conviction of Paul Fickling, Amy Smith's ex-boyfriend.
