In the early morning hours of July 3, 2022, a chaotic scene unfolded near the intersection of Terrence and State Streets in Springfield, Massachusetts. Reports of a large group of people fighting and the sound of gunfire prompted a response from the Springfield Police Department at approximately 3:30 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a scene of disarray, with several vehicles damaged by what appeared to be both gunshots and blunt objects.
Amid the investigation at the scene,
law enforcement received a report that a female victim with gunshot wounds had been taken by private vehicle to Mercy Medical Center. This woman was identified as 23-year-old Adriana W. Gonzalez, a lifelong resident of Springfield. After initial treatment, she was transferred to Baystate Medical Center due to the severity of her injuries.
Adriana W. Gonzalez, a graduate of the High School of Commerce and Springfield Technical Community College who worked as a cashier at MGM, succumbed to her injuries on July 8, 2022, five days after the shooting. Her death is being investigated as a homicide by the Springfield Police Department's Homicide Unit in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney's Office's Murder Unit.
Authorities have appealed to the public for any information regarding the incident and have asked anyone with knowledge of the event to contact the Springfield Police Department's Detective Bureau or to provide anonymous tips.
