Background
The Kelly family, originally from Pennsylvania, consisted of William Kelly (55), his wife Kate, their son Bill (20), and daughter Kit (18). In 1869, they relocated to Kansas, eventually settling near Oak City in "No Man's Land," now known as the Oklahoma Panhandle. Initially, they engaged in cattle dealing but later established a tavern that catered to travelers and fellow cattlemen.Criminal Activities
Between August and December 1887, the Kelly family is believed to have committed a series of murders targeting wealthy travelers. Their modus operandi involved luring victims into their tavern, where they would be robbed and killed. The bodies were then disposed of on their property.Discovery of the Crimes
In December 1887, the Kellys abruptly abandoned their homestead, arousing suspicion. A traveler from St. Louis, S.T. Gregg, who had previously visited the tavern, decided to investigate the deserted property. Upon entering, he was met with a foul odor emanating from a hidden cellar beneath the house. Inside, he discovered the decomposed bodies of three men. Gregg promptly alerted the authorities, leading to a comprehensive search of the premises. ...Read MoreVictims
