Escalation to Violence
Crump's criminal behavior escalated over the years. In 1960, he attempted to rob a man in a hotel bathroom but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of larceny. By 1962, he and accomplices lured a man from a bar, robbed him, and were subsequently arrested. Crump received a prison sentence of 1 to 5 years for this crime. After his release, he continued his criminal activities, including a robbery in 1966 and an attempted murder in Michigan in 1967, where he stabbed a waitress ten times after a dispute.
