Background
George Jefferson Hassell was born on July 5, 1888, in Smithville, Texas. He was the youngest of seven children. His life was marked by a series of tragic events, including the death of his brother Thomas, who was kicked in the head by a mule. Hassell later married his brother's widow, Susan Ferguson of Oklahoma.First Series of Murders (1917)
