Anthony Eugene Robinson – “The Shopping Cart Killer”

Anthony Eugene Robinson (born September 3, 1986) is an American serial killer known as the “Shopping Cart Killer.” Operating in 2021, he is convicted of two murders and suspected in at least four, possibly six, killings across Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. He earned his moniker by transporting victim remains in shopping carts dumped near motels and wooded lots.

Early life and background

Robinson worked in waste management, had two children (one deceased), and lived transiently across New York City, Maryland, and Virginia. He had minimal prior criminal history and was homeless at the time of the murders.

Confirmed victims & details

• Allene “Beth” Elizabeth Redmon, 54 – went missing October 24, 2021, after meeting Robinson at a motel in Harrisonburg, VA. Her body, hands bound, was found near a Howard Johnson motel undeveloped lot. Death suspected from blunt‐force trauma or strangulation.
• Tonita Lorice Smith, 39 – disappeared November 19, 2021. Body found on November 25, 2021, roughly 15 feet from Redmon’s. Death cause undetermined.

Suspected additional victims

• Cheyenne Brown, 29 – missing September 30, 2021. Pregnant with a 7‑year‑old son. Last seen boarding a Metrobus in Washington, D.C. Found December 15, 2021, at Moon Inn motel in Alexandria, VA, in a container beside a shopping cart. Identified by tattoo.
• Stephanie Harrison, 48 – visiting from Redding, CA. Found with Brown December 15, 2021, at same location.
• Sonya Champ, 40 – body found in a shopping cart in Northeast D.C. mid‑September 2021. DNA later matched to Robinson.
