Israel Keyes (January 7, 1978 – December 2, 2012) was an American serial killer, rapist, arsonist, burglar, and bank robber. His criminal activities spanned over a decade, during which he committed numerous heinous acts across various states in the U.S. Keyes was known for his meticulous planning and lack of a consistent victim profile, making his crimes particularly challenging to solve.

Known Victims

• Julie Marie Harris: A 12-year-old Special Olympics medalist from Colville, Washington, who disappeared on March 2, 1996. Her remains were found on April 26, 1997, in a wooded area near her home. While Keyes was questioned about her case, he neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
• Cassandra "Cassie" Emerson: A 12-year-old girl from Colville, Washington. Her mother, Marlene Emerson, was found murdered in their burned-out trailer on June 27, 1997. Cassie's remains were discovered in 1998, about thirteen miles from her home. Keyes admitted his first act of arson was with a trailer in Colville.
• Unnamed Couple: Between 2001 and 2005, Keyes claimed to have murdered a young couple in Washington state. He stated he beat the man to death and strangled the woman, subsequently burying their bodies in a location near a valley. Their identities remain unknown.
• Debra Feldman: A 48-year-old woman who disappeared from her home in Hackensack, New Jersey, on April 8, 2009. Authorities suspect Keyes in her disappearance after discovering he had frequently searched for her case online. It is believed he buried her near Tupper Lake, New York.
• Bill and Lorraine Currier: On June 8, 2011, Keyes broke into the Essex, Vermont, home of Bill (50) and Lorraine (55) Currier. He abducted them, took them to an abandoned farmhouse, where he shot Bill and sexually assaulted and strangled Lorraine. Their bodies have never been found.
• Samantha Koenig: An 18-year-old barista from Anchorage, Alaska, abducted on February 1, 2012. Keyes kidnapped her from her workplace, sexually assaulted her, and killed her the following day. He then demanded ransom using a photo of her posed to appear alive. Her dismembered body was later recovered from Matanuska Lake.

Modus Operandi

Keyes was meticulous in his planning, often traveling significant distances to commit his crimes to avoid detection. He buried "murder kits" containing weapons and tools in various locations across the country years before using them.
