Andre Vernell Jones: A Detailed Account of His Crimes

Early Life and Criminal Background

Andre Vernell Jones was born on July 22, 1956, in East St. Louis, Illinois. His criminal activities began at a young age, starting with purse-snatching when he was just 12 years old. Over the years, his criminal record expanded to include theft, shoplifting, armed robberies, and attempted murder. At the time of the 1979 murders, Jones was on parole, having served over four years of a 4 to 12-year sentence for armed robbery.

Confession to 1971 Triple Murder

In 1980, Jones confessed to committing a triple homicide in 1971, when he was 14 years old. The victims were:
  • Arthur Lee Walson, 21
  • Frank Slaughter, 23
  • Jack Slaughter, 21
These individuals were found shot and stabbed. Jones claimed he killed them over a drug-related dispute. However, due to skepticism about his ability to commit such crimes at a young age and lack of corroborating evidence, this confession did not lead to formal charges.

1978 Double Murder of the Wallaces

In November 1978, Jones brutally murdered an elderly couple in their East St. Louis home:
  • Michael Wallace, 67
  • Dora Wallace, 55
Jones decapitated Michael and stabbed Dora to death before setting their house on fire. He confessed to these murders after his arrest in 1979, but he was never tried for these crimes. ...Read More
