Debra Ann Brown, a 21-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on April 30, 1979, in East Saint Louis, Illinois. Debra was a U.S. Postal Service carrier who was killed while on her mail route. On that fateful day, she inadvertently walked in on a murder scene and was subsequently shot and killed because of what she witnessed.
