Early Life and Initial Crime

Carl Eric "Charlie" Brandt was born on February 23, 1957, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. On January 3, 1971, at the age of 13, Brandt committed a shocking act of violence in his family home. He entered the bathroom where his father, Herbert Brandt, was shaving, and his pregnant mother, Ilsa Brandt, was bathing. Without warning, he shot his father, who survived, and then fatally shot his mother, resulting in the death of both her and the unborn child. Brandt then attempted to shoot his older sister, Angela, but the gun misfired, allowing her to escape. Due to his age, Brandt was not criminally charged but was placed in a psychiatric hospital for one year before being released back to his family. The incident was kept a closely guarded family secret.

Later Crimes and Murders

After relocating to Florida, Brandt's violent tendencies resurfaced decades later. Notable incidents include:

• July 16, 1989: Sherry Perisho – A 38-year-old woman found partially clothed and murdered near the North Pine Channel Bridge at Big Pine Key, Florida. Her throat had been slashed, and her body was extensively mutilated. This location was less than 1,000 feet from Brandt's residence at the time.
• September 13, 2004: Teresa "Teri" Brandt – Brandt's 46-year-old wife was found stabbed seven times in the chest while lying on a couch in their niece's home in Maitland, Florida.
• September 13, 2004: Michelle Jones – Brandt's 37-year-old niece, residing in Maitland, Florida. She was discovered in her bedroom, decapitated and disemboweled, with her heart removed and her head placed beside her body.
