Connection to the 1996 Murder of Mack Fowler

On July 1996, 72-year-old Mack Fowler was found murdered in his Columbus home. Evidence indicated a violent struggle that began at the front of the house and continued to the back, where Fowler succumbed to his injuries. Items were reported missing from the residence, leading investigators to consider burglary as a motive. In October 2016, Murray was arrested in Jackson, Mississippi, on an aggravated assault charge. A DNA sample collected during this arrest matched evidence from the 1996 Fowler crime scene. This breakthrough led to Murray's arrest by U.S. Marshals in May 2017, charging him with capital murder in connection to Fowler's death. Reports suggest that Murray confessed to the crime during interrogation.
