In Harrodsburg, Kentucky, on November 9, 1991, Robert Daigneau—driven by jealousy—followed his estranged wife, Donna Daigneau, as she rode in a car with acquaintances to a restaurant. He approached their vehicle in his pickup, then stepped out and opened fire with a .357 Magnum, fatally shooting his wife and three others. He then took his own life later that evening.

Detailed Crime Description

Robert Daigneau was consumed by jealousy toward his estranged wife. As she drove with friends toward a restaurant, Daigneau drove up, stepped from his vehicle, and unleashed six shots into the car using a .357 Magnum. One of the victims, her daughter, stated, “he was consumed by jealousy. … he thought she had a date.” The driver attempted to seek help by honking at the local police station, not realizing it had relocated. After the shooting, Daigneau committed suicide later that evening.

• Donna Fitzgerald Daigneau, age 33 – estranged wife of Robert Daigneau; died from gunshot wounds at Albert B. Chandler Medical Center, Lexington, KY, around 10:02 p.m.
• Palmer Lee Rousey, age 48, of Danville, Kentucky; killed in the shooting along with others in the car.
• Fred “Junior” Marion Alsman, age 48, from Webster Groves (St. Louis suburb), Missouri; one of the occupants of the car, fatally shot.
• Thomas (Earl) Bannister, age 38, of Cahokia, Illinois; another occupant, killed in the attack.
