Overview
On the morning of September 6, 2011, 32-year-old Eduardo Sencion opened fire inside and outside an International House of Pancakes (IHOP) on South Carson Street in Carson City, Nevada. He killed four people—three of them members of the Nevada National Guard—and wounded several others before fatally shooting himself. The attack shook Nevada’s capital and prompted temporary security lockdowns at nearby state buildings.
Timeline of the Attack
Shortly before 9:00 a.m., Sencion arrived in a blue minivan, entered the restaurant, and began shooting. Witnesses described a rapid, chaotic burst of gunfire as he targeted diners, including a table of uniformed Guard members. After firing inside, he moved into the parking lot, continued shooting, and then turned the gun on himself. Responding officers and medics converged within minutes. Contemporary reports documented four people killed in the attack (excluding the gunman) and seven wounded.
