In the late morning of September 6, 2011, a tragedy unfolded in a Carson City, Nevada, IHOP restaurant that claimed the life of 67-year-old Florence Donovan-Gunderson. The White female was inside the eatery when a gunman, identified as 32-year-old Eduardo Sencion, entered and opened fire. The chaotic scene erupted around 8:57 a.m. as Sencion, armed with a Norinco MAK-90 semi-automatic rifle, began shooting.
Donovan-Gunderson was one of the first victims in the deadly rampage.
She was shot and killed while seated at a table with her husband. The gunman then specifically targeted a group of uniformed National Guardsmen who were eating together at a nearby booth. In the brief but horrific event, Sencion killed three of the service members and wounded several other people before exiting the restaurant.
After continuing to fire his weapon in the parking lot, Sencion turned the gun on himself, inflicting a fatal wound. The motive for the senseless attack remains unclear, though family members of the shooter reported he had been experiencing mental health issues. There were no other suspects involved, and the investigation concluded that Sencion acted alone in the murder-suicide that left four victims dead and seven others wounded.
