Overview
On February 12, 2007, 18-year-old Sulejman Talovic carried out a mass shooting at Trolley Square Mall in Salt Lake City, Utah. Armed with a pistol-grip 12-gauge shotgun and a .38-caliber revolver, he killed multiple people and wounded others before being shot dead by responding police officers. Authorities never determined a motive.
The Attack: Timeline and Locations
Talovic arrived at approximately 6:42 p.m. MST and began shooting in the west parking garage, then moved through the mall’s main level hallway and into the Cabin Fever card and gift store. An off-duty Ogden police officer, Kenneth Hammond, engaged Talovic, and a Salt Lake City Police Department contact team ultimately confronted and killed him inside the mall. The active gunfire lasted roughly six minutes.
