On a tragic evening in Harrodsburg, Kentucky, the life of 48-year-old Palmer Lee Rousey, a male resident of Danville, was violently cut short. On November 9, 1991, Rousey was caught in a brutal outburst of jealousy that ended in a devastating murder-suicide, leaving four innocent people dead. The events were set in motion by Robert Daigneau, who was consumed by envy after his estranged wife, 33-year-old Donna Daigneau, had left him.
That Saturday, Donna Daigneau was on her way to a
restaurant with Palmer Rousey and two other acquaintances, Fred Alsman Jr., 48, and Thomas Bannister, 38. As they traveled, they noticed Robert Daigneau was following their vehicle. In a desperate attempt to find safety, the driver of the car sped to what they believed was the local police station and began honking the horn to attract attention. Unbeknownst to them, the station had recently moved.
Seizing the opportunity, Daigneau pulled his pickup truck alongside their car. He quickly exited his vehicle and, with a. 357 magnum, fired six shots into the car, killing his estranged wife and the three men with her. Palmer Lee Rousey died at the scene, an unsuspecting victim of another man's rage.
After the shooting, Daigneau fled. His escape was short-lived, however, as a police officer in the nearby town of Lancaster spotted his truck and began to follow him. Before the officer could even get out of his cruiser, Robert Daigneau turned the gun on himself, ending his own life. With the perpetrator deceased, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Palmer Lee Rousey and the other victims. The community was left to mourn the senseless loss of four lives, a stark reminder of the destructive power of jealousy.
