Khalil Wheeler-Weaver: A Detailed Account of His Crimes

Overview

Khalil Wheeler-Weaver, born on April 20, 1996, in Orange, New Jersey, is an American serial killer and arsonist. Between August and November 2016, he used social networking sites, particularly Tagged, to lure women to secluded locations in Orange, New Jersey, where he subsequently strangled them. His victims were primarily vulnerable women, including sex workers and those experiencing homelessness or mental health issues. Wheeler-Weaver was apprehended after a sting operation orchestrated by the friends and family of one of his victims. In 2019, he was convicted on multiple charges, including three counts of murder, and was sentenced to 160 years in prison. In 2022, he was additionally charged with the murder of a 15-year-old girl.

Victims

  • Robin Daphne Michele West (19): Last seen on August 31, 2016. Her body was discovered on September 1, 2016, in a burning, abandoned house in Orange, New Jersey. She had been strangled before the fire was set. Due to the extent of the burns, her remains were identified two weeks later through dental records.
  • Joanne Brown (33): Last seen on October 22, 2016. Her body was found on December 5, 2016, in a vacant house in Orange, New Jersey. She had tape over her mouth and nose, and a jacket was used to strangle her.
  • Sarah Butler (20): Disappeared on November 22, 2016. Her body was discovered on December 1, 2016, in the Eagle Rock Reservation in West Orange, New Jersey. She had been strangled.
  • Mawa Doumbia (15): Disappeared on October 7, 2016. Her remains were found on May 9, 2019, in a vacant carriage house in Orange, New Jersey. An autopsy confirmed she had been strangled. Wheeler-Weaver was charged with her murder in 2022.

Modus Operandi

Wheeler-Weaver utilized social networking sites, notably Tagged, under usernames such as "LilYachtRock" and "pimpkillerghost" to contact his victims. He targeted women he perceived as vulnerable, including sex workers and those experiencing homelessness or mental health issues. He would arrange meetings under the guise of exchanging money for sex, then attack and strangle his victims. He meticulously attempted to avoid leaving physical evidence by wearing gloves and condoms during the assaults. However, his movements were tracked through his phone's geolocation data, linking him to the crime scenes.
