In the early hours of May 14, 2020, a tragic event unfolded in a home in Sequim, Washington, resulting in the death of 32-year-old James Faber Jr. The incident, which also claimed the lives of his sister, Samantha Faber, 34, and their acquaintance, Jacob M. Hunter, 25, has been described by authorities as a double murder-suicide. Hunter, who had been living at the Faber's residence on Sheldon Lane, is considered the sole suspect in the shootings.
The Clallam County Sheriff's Office
received a call about an assault with a firearm in progress at approximately 12:15 a.m. The caller reported that gunshots had been fired inside the home where seven people, including the shooter and two children, were present. Law enforcement officers from the Sheriff's Office and the Sequim Police Department responded to the scene and were able to safely evacuate five uninjured individuals, including the children of both James and Samantha Faber.
After attempts to negotiate with the shooter were unsuccessful, officers made a tactical entry into the residence. Inside, they discovered the bodies of James Faber Jr., Samantha Faber, and Jacob Hunter. The investigation later revealed that Hunter used a handgun in the shootings.
According to witness statements provided to detectives, the motive for the shooting stemmed from Hunter's unreciprocated romantic feelings for Samantha Faber. It is believed that James Faber Jr. was shot and killed when he ran towards the sound of gunfire in an attempt to protect his sister or render aid. Authorities have concluded that after shooting the siblings, Hunter turned the gun on himself. The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Washington State Patrol's Crime Scene Response Team, who assisted the Clallam County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigation Bureau.
