Fred Waterfield: The Killing Cousins' Accomplice

Background

Fred Waterfield, born on September 29, 1952, in New Jersey, was a former high school football player. He is infamously known for his collaboration with his cousin, David Alan Gore, in a series of heinous crimes that plagued Florida between 1981 and 1983. The duo earned the moniker "The Killing Cousins" due to their brutal acts.

Criminal Activities

Waterfield and Gore's partnership led to the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of multiple victims. Their modus operandi often involved using Gore's position as an auxiliary sheriff's deputy to lure unsuspecting victims. Below is a detailed account of their known crimes:
  • February 19, 1981: Hsiang Huang Ling (48) and her daughter Ying Hua Ling (17) - Gore, wielding his auxiliary police badge, abducted Ying Hua Ling and subsequently her mother, Hsiang Huang Ling. The women were tied up, assaulted, and eventually murdered. Their dismembered bodies were disposed of in oil drums and buried.
  • July 15, 1981: Judith Kay Daley (35) - A former resident of Fort Pierce visiting from California, Daley's car was sabotaged by Gore at the beach. Offering assistance, Gore and Waterfield abducted her, subjected her to sexual assault, and subsequently murdered her. Gore claimed to have disposed of her body in a swamp.
  • May 20, 1983: Barbara Ann Byer (14) and Angelica LaVallee (14) - The cousins picked up these hitchhiking teenagers from Orlando. Both girls were raped, murdered, and dismembered. These are the only two murders for which Waterfield was convicted, resulting in two consecutive life sentences.
  • July 26, 1983: Lynn Elliott (17) and Regan Martin (14) - While hitchhiking to Wabasso Beach, the girls were offered a ride by Gore and Waterfield. Taken to Gore's parents' house, they were bound in separate rooms. Lynn Elliott managed to escape but was tragically shot dead by Gore in the driveway. Regan Martin was rescued by police following Gore's arrest.

Arrest and Conviction

The brutal murder of Lynn Elliott on July 26, 1983, witnessed by a young boy, led to Gore's immediate arrest. Subsequently, Waterfield was apprehended. On January 21, 1985, Waterfield was convicted for the murders of Barbara Ann Byer and Angelica LaVallee, receiving two consecutive life sentences. He is currently incarcerated at Hardee Correctional Institution in Florida. ...Read More
