Sherman McCrary was a notorious serial killer whose crimes in the early 1970s left a trail of fear and devastation across multiple states in the United States. Known for his involvement in the infamous "Donut Shop Murders," McCrary, along with his family and accomplices, committed a series of heinous crimes that shocked the nation.

The Crimes

Sherman McCrary's criminal activities were characterized by abductions, sexual assaults, and murders. His victims were often young women, many of whom were employees at donut shops. The crimes spanned several states, including Colorado, Texas, Florida, Kansas, and Utah.

Notable Victims

  • Sheri Lee Martin: Abducted on August 12, 1971, from a Winchell's Donut Shop in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her body was found two weeks later in the desert near Wendover. She had been tied with her own nylon stockings and shot ten times with a .38 caliber pistol.
  • Leeora Looney: A 20-year-old employee at a Lakewood, Colorado donut shop. She was kidnapped, raped, and murdered. Her body was discovered with evidence of strangulation and a gunshot wound to the head.
  • Elizabeth Steffins: Vanished in Texas in September 1971. Her remains were found three months later. McCrary and his accomplices later confessed to her murder.
