On a summer morning in 2021, the life of 27-year-old Jamez LaQuan Prewitt was cut short. The young man was fatally shot around 8 a.m. on June 27th at the Park Ridge Apartments complex located in the 1300 block of Sharondale Circle in Ferguson, Missouri. When Ferguson police responded to a 911 call about the shooting, they found Prewitt suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to an area hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe the shooting may have been the result of an altercation between two men. It remains unclear whether Prewitt had any prior acquaintance with the individual who shot him. The day after the fatal shooting, authorities made an arrest in the case.
Byron Collier, a 29-year-old from St. Louis, was taken into custody on June 28, 2021. He was subsequently charged with first-degree manslaughter and armed criminal action in connection with the death of Jamez Prewitt.
