On January 9, 2020, Diane McFarland, aged 65, was found dead alongside her 26-year-old son, Shane McFarland, inside a red SUV on the northeast side of Indianapolis. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a call reporting a shooting at the intersection of Irwin Avenue and 45th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered the bodies of Diane and Shane McFarland in the front seats of the vehicle, which had its windows shattered from multiple gunshots.
