In the late hours of an autumn evening in Indianapolis, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Jahnaya Bakare was tragically cut short. On October 12, 2021, on the north side of the city, Jahnaya, a young Black woman, was discovered with a gunshot wound in the 2100 block of Wheatgrass Way, near East 71st Street and Harcourt Road. The incident, one of two fatal shootings to occur in that area on the same night, happened at approximately 11:30 p.m.
