In the late hours of an autumn evening in Indianapolis, Indiana, the life of 18-year-old Jahnaya Bakare was tragically cut short. On October 12, 2021, on the north side of the city, Jahnaya, a young Black woman, was discovered with a gunshot wound in the 2100 block of Wheatgrass Way, near East 71st Street and Harcourt Road.
