In the early months of 2008, the city of Indianapolis, Indiana, was home to a 29-year-old Black woman named Starlett Carisa Miller, known affectionately to her friends and family as "Star." Born into a large, loving family, she was the daughter of Vera Kersey and Charles Michael Miller. Starlett had built a life for herself in the community, working as a Loan Processor Assistant for First Franklin Financial Corporation, a position she had held for two and a half years.
Beyond her professional life, she was a dedicated mother to her two young sons, Carson Leon Bryant and Caden Sean Lewis Miller, and was surrounded by a supportive network of siblings, grandparents, and extended relatives who cherished her presence.
Tragedy struck on March 16, 2008, when Starlett’s life was cut short in a violent act of homicide. The incident occurred at a residence located at 4251 North Shadeland Avenue in Indianapolis. Despite the efforts of emergency responders and the immediate launch of an investigation by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, the events leading up to her death left investigators with few immediate answers. The community and her grieving family were left to mourn a woman who had been a vibrant part of their lives, organizing a funeral service at the Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church to pay their final respects.
Over the years, the investigation into Starlett Miller's death has remained open but has yielded no significant breakthroughs. Detectives have classified the case as a cold case, and despite the passage of time, no suspects have been publicly identified or named by law enforcement. There have been no arrests made in connection with her murder, and consequently, no charges have been filed, and no trials or convictions have taken place.
