Seven-year-old Eve JaeNiylah JaeElle Moore was tragically killed in a quadruple homicide on March 13, 2021, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The young girl was in a home on North Randolph Street with her family when a domestic dispute turned deadly. The conflict began when Malik Halfacre, the boyfriend of Eve's mother, Jeanettrius Moore, became aggressive during an argument over her stimulus check.
The situation escalated horrifically as Halfacre opened fire, fatally shooting Eve, her
23-year-old uncle Dequan Moore, her 44-year-old grandmother Tomeeka Brown, and a 35-year-old family friend, Anthony Johnson. Jeanettrius Moore was also shot but managed to escape to a neighbor's house to call for help. In the chaos that followed the shootings, Halfacre fled the scene, taking his and Jeanettrius's 6-month-old daughter with him.
An Amber Alert was issued for the infant, who was later found safe at the home of Halfacre's sister. After an intense manhunt, police located Halfacre at a different residence, leading to an hours-long standoff with a SWAT team. He was eventually found hiding in the attic and was taken into custody without further incident.
Malik Halfacre was charged with four counts of murder, one count of attempted murder, armed robbery, and auto theft. In court proceedings, it was revealed that he had admitted to the killings, stating that the argument over the stimulus money was the catalyst. In June 2024, Halfacre pleaded guilty to four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. He was subsequently sentenced to 145 years in prison, ensuring he will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for the devastating loss of four lives, including that of a young child.
