In the late afternoon of November 9, 2021, the life of 26-year-old Adriona Marie Coleman, a Black female, was tragically cut short in a shooting at a northwest-side apartment complex in Indianapolis. Known affectionately as 'Ona,' she was a vibrant entrepreneur, the founder of Onax Hair and Onax Clothing, and a devoted mother to her young daughter.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at the Covered Bridge Apartments around 3:15 p.m.
Upon arrival, they discovered Adriona in a common area of one of the buildings, suffering from gunshot wounds. The situation quickly escalated as information received by the officers prompted an immediate evacuation of the building and led to a nearly four-hour standoff involving the SWAT team. Despite the significant police presence and a thorough search of the premises, no suspect was found inside.
The Marion County Coroner's Office later confirmed Adriona Coleman's identity as the victim of the fatal shooting. Investigators with the IMPD stated that they did not believe the shooting was a random act of violence, suggesting that Adriona may have been the intended target. Homicide detectives have been pursuing specific leads and have been in communication with her family.
Despite the ongoing investigation, there have been no arrests made in connection with the murder of Adriona Marie Coleman. Police have not publicly identified any suspects in the case.
