In a quiet neighborhood on the southeast side of Indianapolis, a grim discovery was made on a Tuesday afternoon in early February 2021. Police were called to a home in the 8000 block of Meadow Lane for a welfare check, and what they found inside brought a tragic end to the lives of a married couple. Janet Thomas, a 72-year-old female, was found deceased inside the residence, having sustained apparent trauma.
Alongside her was 81-year-old Larry Thomas.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene by medics. The Marion County Coroner's Office later determined that Janet Thomas's death was a homicide. Larry Thomas's death was ruled a suicide.
Homicide detectives from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department led the investigation into the deaths. Based on the evidence gathered at the scene, authorities concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide. There were no indications of any other individuals being involved, and therefore, no arrests were made as the sole suspect was also deceased. The investigation did not lead to any further suspects or public announcements of a different motive.
