On April 15, 2022, a tragic event unfolded in an apartment at the Oaks of Eagle Creek complex on the northwest side of Indianapolis, resulting in the deaths of three individuals. Among the deceased was 22-year-old Summer Stamps, a female resident of the city. The incident, which has been classified as a double murder-suicide, also claimed the life of her 47-year-old father, Vanel Stamps.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a call around 1:37 p.m.
and discovered three adults with gunshot wounds inside an apartment. All three were pronounced dead at the scene. The third individual was identified as 26-year-old Kris Martin. An investigation by the Marion County Coroner's Office later determined that the deaths of Summer and Vanel Stamps were homicides, while Kris Martin's death was a suicide.
Further investigation revealed that on the day of the incident, Summer Stamps was in the process of moving out of the apartment she shared with her boyfriend, Kris Martin. Her father, Vanel, was present to assist her with the move. Authorities and family members believe the tragic events that transpired were rooted in domestic violence. According to reports, witnesses heard several gunshots and saw a man and woman running from the building to seek help.
As Kris Martin was identified as the suspect and died by suicide at the scene, no arrests were made in connection with the deaths of Summer and Vanel Stamps. The case highlighted growing concerns about domestic violence in the area. Summer was a graduate of Anderson High School and was employed by FedEx. She was remembered by friends and family for her bubbly, funny, and kind personality. She is survived by her mother and a daughter.
