In the summer of 2014, the life of 23-year-old Katrina Lynn Miller of Indianapolis, Indiana, was tragically cut short. The young mother was found deceased on the evening of July 24, 2014, in a Hancock County cornfield by two boys. An investigation revealed she had been shot in the head. The motive behind the violent act was determined to be a result of jealousy and a dispute over missing drugs.
The investigation into Katrina's death led to the arrests of three individuals: Amanda
Gonzales, Joe Meyers, and Gonzales's boyfriend, Ronnie Westbrook. Court documents and testimony revealed a harrowing tale of betrayal and violence. Gonzales, fueled by jealousy after discovering Katrina with Westbrook in a hotel room, orchestrated the events that led to Katrina's murder. It was also alleged that Westbrook had become angry over missing drugs and had threatened both Gonzales and Katrina.
On the day of the murder, Gonzales and Meyers drove Katrina to the remote cornfield. There, she was forced to her knees before being fatally shot. While Gonzales had initiated the plan, it was Meyers who ultimately pulled the trigger. Ronnie Westbrook, who was on parole and wearing a GPS ankle monitor at the time, was present in the vehicle but was dropped off before the murder took place. The GPS data from his ankle bracelet confirmed he was not at the immediate scene of the crime.
The legal proceedings brought a measure of justice for Katrina's family. Amanda Gonzales was convicted of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving a 60-year prison sentence. Joe Meyers was found guilty of murder and kidnapping and was sentenced to 75 years in prison. Ronnie Westbrook pleaded guilty to assisting a criminal and received a six-year sentence.
