An 18-year-old woman, Makayla Sue Bauman, was fatally shot in Indianapolis. The incident began on a Sunday evening when police responded to a report of a person shot in the 5900 block of Riva Ridge Drive. Upon arrival, they found Bauman with gunshot wounds.
Emergency services transported her to a local hospital in critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The investigation suggests the initial incident, an attempted robbery, took place in the 5400 block of Sagebrush Avenue. It is believed that Bauman and her brother fled the scene in a vehicle after the attempted robbery. They reportedly did not realize she had been shot until they had left the apartment complex. Her brother was trying to get her home for help.
As of the reports, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. The Beech Grove Police Department is actively investigating the case and has urged anyone with information to come forward. A SWAT unit was deployed to the area of the shooting to search for any potential suspects in the nearby apartment complexes.
