In the quiet evening of September 29, 2025, the life of 33-year-old LeNorris Boyd Jr. was tragically cut short in a burst of gunfire at a Phenix City, Alabama, apartment complex. The male victim was discovered by Phenix City Police Department officers around 9:40 p.m. at the Brookwood Park Apartment Homes on College Drive, where they had responded to a call of shots fired.
Boyd, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A second victim, a 31-year-old woman from Phenix City, was also found with life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical services provided first aid before she was transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional for treatment. From the outset of the investigation, authorities announced that they had identified a person of interest in the double shooting.
Nearly a month after the fatal shooting, an arrest was made in the case. On October 23, 2025, the United States Marshals Task Force, with assistance from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency S.W.A.T. Team, took JaMarrie Deaundre Leonard of Hurtsboro, Alabama, into custody in Eufaula, Alabama. Following his arrest, Leonard was slated to be transported back to Phenix City to be booked into the Russell County Jail in connection with the murder of LeNorris Boyd Jr. and the injury of the female victim.
