In the early morning hours of May 11, 2026, the quiet of Phenix City, Alabama, was broken by a single gunshot that ended the life of 36-year-old Harvey Lee Walker Jr. The male victim was discovered by police inside a room at the Colonial Inn on the U.S. 280 Bypass. Walker, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 2:00 a.m. from what the Russell County Coroner's Office confirmed was a fatal gunshot wound.
His body was subsequently sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science for an autopsy as the Phenix City Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division launched a full-scale homicide investigation into the tragic event.
The investigation quickly led to the identification of multiple suspects. Two individuals, Tionne Carreker and Tisha Gibson, were identified as the primary suspects in the homicide. Carreker was apprehended in Junction City, Georgia, by the Talbot County Sheriff's Office and faced a charge of capital murder, awaiting extradition back to Phenix City. In connection with the investigation, a third person, LaVincent Harris, was also taken into custody and charged with tampering with physical evidence and first-degree possession of marijuana.
