On September 11, 2022, Mendel King, a 47-year-old African American male from Phenix City, Alabama, was found unresponsive and not breathing at the L.P. Stough Apartments. Responding officers discovered that he had suffered a fatal stab wound. King was pronounced dead at the scene.
